Speaker of the Students’ Representative Council (SRC) Hon. Francis Ogbudu yesterday opened up to Campus Echoes with regards the suspension of the SUG Executives.
With questions been raised from some quarters on why the suspension was meted on the entire executives when stories has it that only a selected few were actually the culprits. The Speaker said that, although, some of the stories happened to be true; other of the executive members still share the blame as none was bold enough to come out and raise alarm on the irregularities going on in the body, even when questioned and summoned before the SRC. With this in view, the SRC had no option than to serve the entire executives the punishment for their silence or perhaps cowardice. Intel also has it that investigation is on-going and some of them might be exonerated.
With regards the late timing, the Speaker told Campus Echoes that the decision to suspend the Executives was concluded long before now, but they only allowed the government to carry out some vital activities such as the SUG Week, Provost Cup etc.
He expressed with utmost deep regret the ill-mannered leadership of the just suspended excos and as well great shock on how greedy some individuals could be going as far as using the students’ body to enrich their pockets.
He pleaded for calm from the general students’ community and promised that no stone will be left unturned, and that anyone found guilty will face the rhythm of the music.
The fate of the executives will be decided on Monday or Tuesday; whether they will be dissolved, impeached or exonerated will be known. Stay on to Campus Echoes for more reactions.
