FOR THE PURPOSE OF THOSE WHO MAY NOT KNOW YOU, COULD YOU TELL US YOUR NAME?
My name is Ekiruo Terry Tejiri, a 400 level Law student; department of Private Law. I’ve been around for quite some time and I hope the future has something for us.
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR CHARACTER?
I’m a very benevolent person and I love to be around people. I’m a nice and simple person. And I tend to listen to people a lot.
AS A FORMER EXECUTIVE OF THE LAWSAN GOVERNMENT, COULD YOU EDUCATE US ON YOUR EXPERIENCE?
Yes. Having served in the last Lawsan government as Secretary General, it was a herculean task put before me and I did my best to ensure that the Secretariat department in terms of man power, strength in the Lawsan government. My duty was drafting of volters, conveying messages from the students to the school authorities and to the outside world and truly it was an experience.
WHAT MOTIVATION DO YOU HAVE TOWARDS YOU VYING FOR THE OFFICE OF THE LAWSAN PRESIDENT?
I always have the passion to serve selflessly. I am driven by the spirit of serving humanity. Because from my 100 level. I have always participated in the government parliament, practiced in the court also and the various arms of government. The experience in these various arms of government is an inspiration. I am inspired for the well-being of students which is sacrosanct because it is our primary constituency.
WHAT PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS DO YOU THINK YOU HAVE QUALIFY YOU FOR THE  OFFICE?
The ability to organize. It is one thing that is very important in the life of a leader- the ability to bring people together, to organize them, the ability to lead them and the ability to provide a selfless policy in your administration.
WHAT DO YOU THINK OF YOUR OPPONENT?
(…Coughs…)
We have not had the opportunity of working together. He is the class-rep of 400L and he has been trying. I think he is a nice guy, and we are looking forward to knowing each other during this election period.
WHAT SUBSTANCE DO YOU THINK YOU HAVE THAT YOUR OPPONENT DOES NOT?
Like I said having worked in the three arms of government; Parliament where I was chief-whip, also I served in the Lawsan Jurial Court. I represented the school in international, sorry inter-school moot and mock competition where I won the Clasfon Best Advocate Award. I also served in the executive; the core of the government. Because of these experiences I would say I have more to offer.
WHAT DO YOU PLAN TO ACHIEVE IF YOU WIN THE PRESIDENCY?
Well, a lot. Because over the years we have discovered that students of the Faculty of Law don’t want to internalize the idea of external, and they said advocacy is the cornerstone of all Law students. This is one area I have been working on; that was why I and a group of my friends founded an Advocacy Academy on campus and it has been going on very well. I hope to achieve a lot because I have some good ideas we have to put in place.
SO ARE YOU TRYING TO SAY THAT YOUR MANIFESTO IS GEARED TOWARDS EXCELLENCE RATHER THAN DEVELOPING WHAT WAS FORMERLY ON GROUND?
Well, it is open-ended. The development is not one-sided; you have to develop academically, you have to develop infrastructures and you develop internally. So the development is all round.
WHAT IS YOUR RESPONSE TO THE ARTICLE ABOUT OPPONENT THAT WAS POSTED ON CAMPUS ECHOES?
I really don’t engage in reading articles posted by my opponent. I heard about the article when I got home, but I didn’t want to read it. I just looked at. I think it was an opinion about himself.
I REALLY WANT TO POINT OUT TO YOU THAT IT WAS NOT HIS OPINION; IT WAS CAMPUS ECHOES’ OPINION. AND DURING THAT TIME WE FELT THAT YOU WERE SILENT, AND WE DIDN’T HEAR MUCH FROM YOU. CAN YOU TELL US WHY?
Why I was silent? A wise man is not a man who speaks very early but who observes before he speaks. So I am not the type that wants to rush into an argument. But I felt that at the appropriate time I am going to reply.
YOU WERE IN THE DEFUNCT GOVERNMENT AT THAT TIME, WHY WAS THERE NO RESPONSE FROM YOU TO HELP THE LAW STUDENTS GET ACCOMODATION?
Well, I was virtually around. The accommodation issue was from the school authority, so I spoke to the Dean of Students about it, and he affirmed to me that he will make the provision.
SO YOU ARE CONFIRMING THAT YOU SPOKE TO THE DEAN?
Yes, I did. I and the former SUG President, Comrade Ewomazino met with the Dean of Students, and he told us he will make provision for those that don’t have a place to stay still the hostel are opened. And I, myself, made provision for some students to stay off-campus especially those new students that came from far places.
WE HEARD THAT YOU DATED A GIRL LAST SESSION DURING THE ELECTION PERIOD AND YOU BROKE UP WITH HER AFTER THE ELECTION SAYING YOU MERELY USED HER AS A CAMPAIGN STRATEGY. HOW TRUE IS THAT?
I think such rumour should not hold water because I am a friend to so many people, and the girl in question was a very good friend of mine and not only her but she and her friends are very close friends of mine. I really won’t want to encourage those that merge personal relationship with politics because it is a wrong strategy of campaign. I and the girl in question are very good friends. And there is no such rumour of I and her breaking up our friendship.
SO ARE YOU CONFIRMING THAT THEY WAS A RELATIONSHIP?
Whether there was a relationship or not, it is personal life and personal affair; it shouldn’t be meddled with politics.
SO YOU ARE MAKING IT CLEAR THAT YOU DO NOT WANT TO DISCUSS THAT PERSONAL PART WITH US?
I just mentioned that I and the girl in question are still very good friends, and there was no break up whatsoever.
BEING A MEMBER OF THE DEFUNCT GOVERNMENT, THEY WERE OUTSTANDING POLICIES UNDELIVERED WOULD YOU CONSIDER THEM IN THIS GOVERNMENT AND WOULD SUCH EVENTS REPEAT THEMSELVES IN THIS GOVERNMENT?
No….. In the last government we faced various challenges such as the federal and state elections. Despite those challenges we were able to articulate our ideas and we came out with something. Some of the projects we embarked on are already in motion. So in this government to be duly constituted, the projects will be part of the idea and other new innovation.
SO IT IS A PROMISE THAT YOU WILL BE CONSTITENT IN THIS NEW GOVERNMENT?
Yes…
MR TERRY I WILL GIVE YOU SOME TIME TO SAY SOMETHING ABOUT YOURSELF, TO GIVE THE STUDENTS OF THIS FACULTY REASONS TO VOTE FOR YOU.
Thank you very much. I really want the support of the students because they say when a man is walking on the right path and he is willingly to keep up. He will eventually make progress. So, I think for me coming out for the Lawsan President is a progress in motion, and with purpose, effort, determination and passion I want us all to walk into an uncertain future with strength, courage and optimism for a better tomorrow. I have some really good ideas to put in place.
Happy new month to all students….
