Boys weren’t
smiling yesterday night at the Government hostel as they expressed discontent over
the hostel supervisor’s decision to impose a fee on all hostelites for hostel
shirts when paying for next session’s hostel dues. The decision was greeted with
much disapproval from the students as they demanded reasons for such drastic
decision taken without proper consultations with the hostel occupants.
Campus Echoes
gathered that the said supervisor who is a female made this known to a few
students during the day with senator Pope in attendance, informing them that
those who intend taking accommodation at the hostel next session must pay an
additional #1000 to the normal #1300 hostel dues or else seek accommodation elsewhere.
Senator Pope who we gathered sought to know why, and was told the decision was
final and if not satisfied
should see the Dean of Students.
Owing to
the development, the hostel governor, comrade Ben, together with senator Pope
gathered together the hostelites for a meeting; where most of them complained
about the decision, saying it was unacceptable, giving that they already have
bills enough to foot next session. And even the manner at which the decision
was made is unacceptable as their rights cannot be trampled upon. They unanimously
agreed against the shirt and asked the governor together with senator Pope to
see the Dean with regards the issue.
