Our Provost
Cup tournament continued today as we reported you yesterday and we are glad to
inform you that the matches went as planned and the four teams that have made
it to the semis can now begin to feel a high level of expectancy with regards to
lifting the trophy.
The series
of quarter-final matches started out at 8am, where the 200L engineering team
that had wooed the tournament so far with great flair continued their quest by
dispatching the Dip. 2 (Law) team with a flawless 3-nil victory in what might
seem to be a message to the other teams left in the competition.
The match
was followed-up by the star game of this phase, where the 300L engineering team
took-up their 500L engineering counterparts in a very close game that couldn’t
reach conclusion owing to a penalty
awarded to the 500L team which the 300L
team felt was undeserved, with scores at 2-1, and the 500L leading. The 300L
team walked out of the match in protest to the penalty. The goals were scored
by Lucky (500L), Solo (500L) while the 300L goal was scored as a result of a
deflection from a Brown’s (300L) shot.![]() |

The 3rd
fixtures didn’t surface as the 500L (Law) team wasn’t available and as a result
the 100L (Law) team advanced to the semis after been awarded a 3-nil walk-over
their opponents.
The last
match of the day, though, went on to penalties and after a period of
spot-kicks, it was the Dip. 1 (Law) team that held their nerves to overcome a
resolute Dip. 2 (engr) team 4-2 on penalties to reach the semis. So from out of
the twelve (12) teams that entered the competition, we are now left with four
and all indications are clear that the is going to be an Engineering team
against a Law team, going by the semis fixtures.
